Description
Gossamer light Summer dress/outfit from Edwardian 1910’s.Cream colored silk with dove-gray woven stripes. The details are incredible: boning at inside waist of the bodice; 2 panels, bordered with soutache frogs, gracefully draped over hook-&-eye self-belt, which itself is hidden under a wide, shirred belt of cream satin (also hook-&-eye closure). Below the belt, a peplum falls in soft waves; all of which is dramatically framed in black silk velvet cord. Both front and back of the generous collar is lavished with soutache in an intricate pattern.
The skirt presents nothing but clean lines, from the diagonally -striped yoke, to the wide pleats dropping neatly to unadorned hem.
Skirt and bodice both employ snaps as well as hook-&-eye closures.
Measurements -
Sleeveless, self-belted bodice: (Laid flat), shoulder-to-shoulder, 15”; waist, 13”; from shoulder to bottom front, 22”.
Skirt: (Laid flat), waist, 13.5”; from front waist to hem, 37”.
This dress/outfit is in very good shape for its age, but it is not perfect. There are scattered tea-colored stains, most notably a few on lower front skirt, a few on front placket of bodice, & yellowing at interior neckline of collar. One or more ‘eye’ closure needs to be reinforced. No holes or tears in fabric that I could see.
