Generally, Ocarinas are set in C, G and F keys. Ocarinas of these keys are easy to play in terms of fingering and breath control. And you can play most of the musical keys with these Ocarinas.
Also C tone is naturally the most popular among beginners for it’s more versatile. And its sweat and mellow sound wouldn’t make you uncomfortable when you practice in a confined space.Besides, being neither too big nor too small, Ocarina of AC tone is probably the best suitable for beginners. Songs like Forest Rhapsody, Landscape of Home Town and Old boys can be played with AC Ocarinas.
About Cavities Six holes, twelve or?
Twelve-hole Ocarina is highly recommended for beginners. It’s easier to learn as each hole represent a musical note.
For children, six-hole Ocarina is also a good choice for it’s funny and educational.
When you advance, or if you’re a professional player, please look for advanced Ocarinas like triple-pipe or four-pipe ones.
About Materials
Fired-clay Ocarina has the most accurate intonation and musical quality. To name some, Black Clay, Redware, Blue and White, Pottery, Glazed, Crackle and Gradient made by TNG would be a good choice for you.
And don’t worry, wood Ocarina will get you started if you have less budget, though it’s not as accurate as Clay Ocarinas.
