Vintage 1960 James Galanos Rare 5pc Custom Ensemble Made for Edie Adams Photo Matched
From the private wardrobe collection of Edie Adams is this fine quality custom made vintage rare 5 piece charcoal black & white floral stitched with raised embroidered brocade silk top, short skirt, long skirt, jacket, palazzo pant jumpsuit and vest set, designed by James Galanos, her #1 designer.
This ensemble was worn by Edie many times during the early 1960’s, to events such as a party for Jack Lemmon that she attended with her good friend Rock Hudson in 1962, and to the premiere of “Fiddler on the Roof” in 1964 escorted by Oleg Cassini. She also wore it during the taping of a Danny Thomas special for NBC, where she’s pictured sitting in the audience with her husband Marty Mills and Gary Crosby. The jacket of the ensemble is draped on the chair next to her and the Galanos label is visible.
Edie is also pictured wearing this ensemble on the cover of the U.K. release of her album “Edie Adams Sings - Music To Listen To Records By” and on the cover of the Sunday N.Y. News magazine for November 11, 1962. Since Galanos was her favorite designer, and since this ensemble is so elegant and classic it’s no wonder Edie wore it so extensively. It’s the most “matched” piece in the collection in terms of how many times it’s seen on her. She most likely removed the fur at some point either due to deterioration or because she wanted it for something else. Now the jacket can be customized with any kind of new fur or other trim.

The sleeveless top is silk lined and has a weighted bottom. It originally had buttons but was altered with a Velcro and hook back closure for easy removal

The jacket has a bias cut, with a weighted bottom and front pockets. It originally had a fur trim collar but was removed and can easily be replaced
