Product Description:
This offering is for a new-in-the-box Ritchey Logic threaded headset. Most of it's component parts are made from a hardened steel, but we also noted the outer cover section of the threaded top race (that is black in color) is made out of a resin (plastic) composite. We would prefer a top race to be made solely from a metal, but in this case, we also noted the section of the race that "contacts" the bearings is hardened steel. In other words, the outer resin composite section appears to be nothing more then a dust cover...and does not come into contact with the bearings or any other moving parts of the headset. I suppose that over time this resin composite section may weather to the point where it may crack and break away...rendering the headset ineffective, but there is probably an equal likelihood that under normal use, the load bearing races/cups/bearings may wear out before the resin composite dust cover deteriorates from the weather. This is all speculation on our part, but thought the discussion still had some merit for those in the market for an inexpensive replacement headset.
It has what is widely considered an oversized 28.6 mm steerer opening, which means it is compatible with a 1 1/8" threaded fork (26 threads per inch) and a quill stem with a diameter of 25.4 mm (or 1"). More specifically, the crown race inside diameter is 30.0 mm and the frame cup outside diameter (or said another way...the outside diameter of the head race sections that press into the head tube) is 34.0 mm (and we believe all of these measurements are fairly standard for an oversized threaded headset). The stack height (and we define stack height as the combined height of all visible headset components after being mounted on the fork and head tube) is a combined 40.5 mm (approximate per our digital calipers) and it weighs about 140 grams.
We also thought you might be interested in some comments from the Company with respect to this headset..."The Company's approach to headset design is different than everyone else. The Company utilizes an inverted cup design to direct impact forces downward into the reinforced area of the steerer tube, rather than upward into the weaker stem area. Another key feature is the appropriate use of different bearings in the top and bottom cups that increase the strength and durability of the headset and ultimately saves weight."
We realize an oversized threaded headset in any make/model is not as popular as the threadless variety, or even a smaller 1" threaded models. Still, if this size is a need item for you, at this price point, plus a very reasonable shipping charge, this is one of our better values in an entry-level (new-in-the-box) headset.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.
Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
