Description
Beautiful midcentury wedding dress by San Francisco California designer Emma Domb. This nice quality dress is fashioned from slipper satin so it is a thicker high luster satin in an ivory type shade I would call candlelight - a lovely and flattering warm tone. It features a simple short sleeved bodice with waist up darts, gusseted underarms and piping at the natural set waist. A wide neckline is softened with pretty net lace that is more of an ecru tone for a lovely contrast. Conmar metal side zipper with hook and eye at the waist. Self covered satin buttons are set in the center bodice for interest and to draw the eye upward. The full gathered skirt has a chapel length train with 3 finger loops sewn underneath. The photo shown is from the original owner who would have just turned 90- she wore this for her wedding in 1951. ( note: the photo is digital only) .This dress is sweet simplicity and a timeless beauty.Measurements: For reference, shown photographed on a mannequin with bust padded ( bra) to 35/ waist 26/ hips 35. I estimate it to fit like an S in todays sizing. The seams in the bodice are minimal but accessible should you wish to alter. Compare with your own measurements and allow for some ease.
Bust: 36" ( note the bodice side seam without the zipper has a seam allowance of 1/2" at the underarm and tapers to 1/2" at the waist)
Waist area: 27"
Hips: open
Shoulder to hem in the front: approx 57".
Narrow machine hemmed
Shoulder to waist: 16"
Waist to hem front: 40.5"
Waist to hem in the back: 68" = chapel length train
Condition: The dress is in overall very good vintage condition. I was told by the original owners daughter that it was cleaned prior to storage. The underarms are in great condition with no yellowing and the hem is clean, so I believe that is true. There are some marks on the dress that are probably from storage. Some spots/ marks on the bodice and back of the skirt. See pics and zoom in. Some discoloration on the lace but nothing that would photograph. Buttons intact. No holes. I have not had it cleaned. No funky smells. Wearable with vintage garment care. A lovely Emma Domb creation.
